Carri A. Beer, architect + permaculture designer

The vision of commONEcology was created in 2005 after several years of internship, LEED consulting and then becoming a young mother. Having pushed the boundaries of ‘green design’ since the early 90’s, Carri understood the planet and people needed more than just checklists. commONEcology was developed originally as an on-line ‘educational resource’ for communities, cities and individuals looking to be a ripple in the big sea of a needed cultural shift. Fifteen years later, those ideas became fully realized in the operations of commONEcology Radical Architecture and Design Studio.

Carri received her Master of Architecture from Texas Tech University in 1998 with a focus on sustainable design. She became a LEED accredited professional in 2001, a registered architect in Maryland in 2002, Certified Permaculture Designer in 2017 with an Advanced Social Permaculture Certificate in 2020, and earned a certificate in Co-housing Design in 2023. Carri was the consultant on several of the region’s first LEED buildings, the co-facilitator of the Baltimore Living Building Collaborative, co-chair of Baltimore AIA COTE for five years, and architect of the region’s first Net Zero, Foam Free Passive Houses. She is the author of The Radical Rewilding of the Suburban Lawn, self-published in Spring 2023 and creator of A Homeowner’s Field Guide to Radical Regenerative Retrofits, launched Summer of 2023.

Carri collaborates with other architects, energy consultants, developers, teachers and farmers to create holistic, radical and regenerative homes and communities.

She co-owns INDRAlogic, LLC with husband and business partner, Michael Hindle. INDRAlogic is the mother company of commONEcology and Passive to POSITIVE. INDRAlogic, LLC is a certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE/DBE/SBE).
